Vafa Batool

PhD student, Computer Science

Vafa is interested in health technology research from a human-centered designer’s perspective, for both physical and behavioral healthcare. The focus of her research is on mental health workers, patients with obesity and female health. Before coming to Dartmouth, Vafa completed her undergrad in Computer Science from Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan.

 

Fun facts: Vafa loves to read, have meaningful conversations, go for long walks and scour the neighborhood for cats and dogs 🐈🐕.

Vafa attends CSCW 2024

Vafa attended CSCW 2024 in Costa Rica to student volunteer and to support her co-author Aishwarya Chandrashekar in presenting their paper: Chandrasekaran, A., Currano, R., Batool, V., Chen, K., Murnane, E. L., Sirkin, D., & Mauriello, M. L. (2024). Therapy for Therapists: Design Opportunities to Support the Psychological Well-being of Mental Health Workers. Empower Lab attends the CHI 2024 Conference

Dylan, Emma, Hannah, Shirin, Sid, Songyun, Vafa, Liz and Empower Lab collaborators attended the 2024 ACM (Association of Computing Machinery) CHI conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems in Honolulu, at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center on the island of Oʻahu. This is the premier international conference of Human-Computer Interaction.

Empower Lab receives Prouty grant

The Empower Lab's Weight & Wellness team has been awarded a Prouty Pilot grant for their proposal “Inclusive patient education materials and medical provider/staff training to improve cervical and breast cancer screening among patients with obesity.”
